2021-2022
Changes in climate and demographics are increasing the number and intensity of wildfires affecting populated areas. The East Central High School InvenTeam is designing a portable, fire-resistant, insulated emergency shelter for people who live, work, and travel to areas prone to wildfire. The shelter, made from commercially available non-toxic material will protect people from flames, radiant heat, and hot gasses of a wildfire burn-over. The shelter will be compact enough to be stored in a structure or vehicle, allowing for easy deployment in an emergency, and will be accessible for adults, children, those with disabilities, and even small pets.
