East Central May Blog

During the month of May, the East Central Inventeam has focused on preparing for our trip up to MIT for the Eurekafest! We have also been designing our display for our space in the university, and travel plans. We designed our display space to feel welcoming and open. We want everyone who stops by to feel inclined to ask questions, as well as even try out our practice shelter.

Our sustainability team lead, Madelyn Bardwell has been working on instructions for our fire resistant shelter. We want to include more pictures than words for the instructions, because we want everyone to be able to understand what exactly needs to be done in order to save lives. Also included on these instructions is a Spanish translation, which allows multiple languages to be understood. A big thanks to our Spanish teacher, Dra. Arroyo. ¡Muchas gracias!

Our technical team during this past month has been focusing on the construction of our practice shelter, a prototype that we will be bringing to MIT.

Fundraising:

The whole team participated in a car wash this month. This fundraiser would contribute to our travel funds, as well as create a bonding experience for the team. We had a great time and felt that this was our favorite fundraiser!

This is our team washing some cars and making some money!

Some students on the team dedicated a Saturday this month to visit all the local businesses in the community to offer sponsorship opportunities. We created documents that included information about our science club, and what we did to become chosen by MIT to show our invention to the world. On these papers we also included tiers that indicated what reward will be presented, depending on what level of money was donated by a business. We would love to give a big thanks for the people that donated to the ECHS Inventeam. You will be recognized!

During the end of May, we began to really fix up our presentation, and get down to the nitty-gritty concerning everything that has to do with the problems and solutions of wildfires and our shelter. We are excited to see everyone in MIT for Eurekafest, as well as our fellow teams. Again, thanks to everyone who reads our blog!
