System to remotely monitor water quality for the Newark, New Jersey Shipping Channel
Energy and Environment

Bayonne, New Jersey
2017-2018

The Bayonne High School InvenTeam invented the Hydro Assay Vehicle (HAV) to collect water quality data in Newark Bay. The Newark Bay has suffered pollution from industrial waste, public waste, and sewage disposal that has degraded water quality and threatened marine life. The HAV is remotely controlled over a 100 m data tether which is connected to a land computer. It is powered by six high-capacity batteries (12V, 10,000 mAh each), which sustain the HAV for over four hours. The HAV is equipped with multiple sensors including acidity (pH), temperature (o C), depth (m), and pressure (atm) and is extensible for the addition of more sensors.
