SOAR Early College High School InvenTeam

Lancaster, California
2017-2018

The SOAR Early College High School InvenTeam invented IRIS – a system to help protect college students walking to and from classes at night when they might feel unsafe. The system allows for students to attach a sensing device to something on their back surface (i.e., backpack, shirt collar, bag strap, necklace) so that they can have “eyes behind their head.” The device will sense movement and a heat signature of a large threat. With the continued popularity of app development and smartphone use, the system includes an Android app that can communicate with the sensing device through BluetoothTM technology.
