The Manasquan High School InvenTeam invented V-Sense, a vital sign monitoring device embedded in firefighters’ turnout jackets. The device monitors saturation of peripheral oxygenation and pulse rate and sends an audible alert and lights up an LED when measurements no longer exist in a specified range. All of the materials were designed to withstand the harsh environments a firefighter faces (heat resistance up to 200 degrees C). The materials are attached with Velcro to maintain the safety integrity of the jacket.
