Confined Space Personal Monitor
Consumer Devices

Elizabethtown, Kentucky
2018-2019

The Elizabethtown InvenTeam invented The Personal Safety System (PSS), comprised of the Central Transmitting Device (CTD) and Sensing Wrist Unit (SWU), to alert workers and/or employers of physiological and environmental hazards and aid in the rescue of confined space and industrial workers. The system monitors environmental temperature, environmental O2 concentration, worker acceleration, and heart rate. When any of these measures exceed a given threshold, the alert system is updated. The device indicates red, yellow, or green with LEDs to indicate “emergency,” “danger,” or “stable” respectively. In the event of an emergency, two bright LEDs will begin to flash, an audible signal will blare and a Bluetooth™ signal will be sent to an on-site manager and/or emergency official alerting him or her of the need to respond.
