The Dublin High School InvenTeam invented SpORT (Special Olympic Robotic Thrower) – a device that allows all students, including those with special needs, to participate in free throw basketball shooting or penalty kick soccer games through a tailored computer user interface. The interface features three pre-programed levels of autonomy based on a user’s motor capabilities and other abilities to ensure they have the least restrictive environment for playing sports. The device includes five tactile buttons to control two degrees of freedom for launch and an enclosed load and launch mechanism to ensure safety. SpORT is paired via Bluetooth™ with an Android™ app for level selection.
