From initial designing to beginning the prototyping stage, the Mira Loma InvenTeam has made major strides over the month of December.

Meeting With Mentor, Mark Westlake

This past month, we hosted our first official meeting with our L-MIT assigned mentor, Mark Westlake. During our meeting with Mr. Westlake, we covered some possible revisions to our original design. We decided to expand the applications of our project to both cold and hot temperatures, as our original device was solely targeted to warmer climates. In addition, we decided on a digital platform for the hardware team to make CAD designs, as well as made some minor design tweaks to our original device.

Meeting Recaps

With all of our project parts having arrived in the mail, the hardware team has officially begun prototyping with hopes to have the first functioning Collar by early January. While our hardware team continues to work through the prototyping stages, the software team has been hard at work making mock sketch-ups and app UI's.  The latter has inspired a smaller team interested in graphic design to form an interface that is visually appealing and fully functional.

January Goals

In the month of January, the communications team is focused primarily on doing local outreach to promote our Mid-Grant Technical Review event on February 28th. With less than two months till the deadline, the software and hardware teams also hope to accelerate progress, striving to reach the goal of completing a functional and solid prototype to present at the event.

Many team members will also be avidly studying sustainability coursework to earn CSDA certification in the next couple of months.
