April of Anticipation and Achievments
The Calistoga HeatSync InvenTeam
As we get closer to Eureakfest this June, our InvenTeam continues to promote new ways to get funds for our students to travel to MIT. This month we held a Carnival Style event that brought many of our community members together! It is always exciting to see people come and support us in many ways. We additionally gladly anticipate an upcoming event in May! Calistoga InvenTeam has had advancements in the creation of our invention! We have come closer to getting the final product and being able to showcase it at Eurekafest!
Picnic at the Park: Carnival Style
On April 6th, our team went to the Calistoga Community Park to raise money by presenting a carnival-style event. We sold many homemade dishes such as ceviche, pozole, sopes, corundas, etc. Not only that but there were also a variety of desserts to follow with the main courses. There were plenty of games such as blackjack, fishing game, balloon-popping dart game, etc. We also had a slime-making and face painting station which became very popular. A sound bowl therapy treatment was also offered at our event helping for a time of relaxation. Overall we sold plenty of food, drinks, and tickets for the games. In the end, those who played the games would receive small prizes as a way to appreciate them for playing a certain amount of times.
Fundraising: Morning Money
It is always a great feeling to drink a hot coffee on a Saturday morning. To go with it, our InvenTeam sold donuts in front of the Calistoga Depot! We would like to give a big thanks to Angela Ames and overall the Ames family for supporting our InvenTeam not only by donating donuts to sell but to help sell them with some of our team members! This was a great fundraising day where much attraction was given due to the delicious-looking donuts we displayed.
Getting Recognition
We are incredibly excited and proud to announce that PG&E is giving us a $45,000 check! We would like to give a huge appreciation to Mrs. Brooks who has always been there for us! She was able to reach out to PG&E and tell them about our InvenTeam, how we came to be, as well as a little summary of our invention, leading up to this check. Additionally, we are receiving support from the Microsoft #MakeWhatsNext Patent Program! This program offers support to female inventors and keeps girls involved in STEM as well as protecting their ideas. We are so beyond happy about these amazing opportunities!
Presenting to our Rotary Club of Calistoga:
Working on our Prototype!
Our entire Technology, Engineering & Science Teams have been working so incredibly hard! One of the most useful things to our team this month has been this book called, "Functional Clothing Design" by Susan M. Watkins and Lucy E. Dunne, which Dr. Estabrooks gave to us. It had a lot of helpful tips or topics. Some we had already thought about, but made us feel good that we are on the right track, and other topics made us reassess our design. Thank you Dr. Estabrooks for this wonderful gift, we used it!
Upcoming Events
Another one of our local restaurants, Pacifico, let us have a dine and donate to show support towards our InvenTeam and trip to Boston!
On May 5th, we will be hosting our "Engineering Extravaganza" from 1-4 pm. In this event, people will have the opportunity to learn about our project, meet our team, and how their support is making a difference. We are nervous yet thrilled to be able to hold this event at Benessere Vineyards and meet these awesome people!
