Simple, human-powered drill tiller
Electronics

The Trevor Browne High School InvenTeam will develop a hand-operated drill tiller to permit eficient seed planting in compacted alluvial soils. The drill tiller will be operable by one or two people, simple to build, use, and maintain, drill a two-centimeter hole 15 to 25 centimeters deep in compacted alluvial soil at the rate of at least four holes per minute. The tiller, along with the use of specially identified seeds, should ignificantly increase the probablilty of successful harvest yields as well as the yield rate. Costing between $65 and $100, the tiller could be marketed to consumers in the US and to farmers in developing countries where arid climates and compacted alluvial soils exist.
