Interactive smartwatch and door system
Healthcare

The Tenafly High School InvenTeam invented a system consisting of a smartwatch and a docking station to help restore independence to patients with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. The system utilizes Arduino platform-based sensors, a high-performance, low-power microcontroller that enables the patient to call for help in case of emergency especially during wandering episodes, and a docking station to command and alert prompts at home. The smartwatch is equipped with a high accuracy GPS that relays the patient’s location in real time over a cellular GSM network to the caretaker through three different communication protocols: SMS text, email and/or a web platform, compatible for mobile and desktop. The alpha prototype cost $410 to fabricate. Watch their 2014 EurekaFest Video
