The Gulfport High School InvenTeam invented a stable, screw-driven wheelchair lift to assist individuals with mobility impairments who wish to board boats at the Gulfport Pier. This invention will increase safety for wheelchair-bound individuals boarding boats since there are no ADA requirements regarding the boarding of individuals in wheelchairs onto a boat. A linear actuator allows the lift to rotate horizontally 90 degrees, so that it may place the individual and their chair into a boat. The enclosed platform and latching mechanism ensure that while the lift is in motion, the individual and chair do not move. The lift is also able to move up to four feet vertically to account for the changing tides.
