2017-2018

The Garey High School InvenTeam invented Heart and Sole—a device allowing individuals with diabetes to self-monitor foot health. Heart and Sole utilizes four sensors that measure variables relevant to the diabetic foot: oxygen saturation, blood flow, MEG, and nerve conduction velocity. The non-invasive measurements allow patients to monitor their feet without visiting a doctor. The home care is possible without hard-to-perform visual inspections. Data from each sensor are displayed on digital screens and a 280 nm UV light is used to sanitize the monitoring device after each use. Then sensors and screens are mounted on a housing that the user can easily slide their foot in and align with the sensors.
