Wearable Device to Measure Hip-to-Waist Ratio
Consumer Devices

2018-2019

The Canadian Valley Technology Center InvenTeam invented the FitBelt, a device worn by adult users to provide feedback about physiological changes that might lead to type 2 diabetes. The device records the user’s hip to waist ratio using Hall effect sensors on a belt-like device. The data are transmitted to a cloud-based service where a machine learning algorithm can interpret the hip to waist ratio and other physiological data which are communicated to the user through a standalone app.
