Biofilm membrane for oil remediation
Energy and Environment

There is an imminent need to have clean water in the United States and abroad. The proposed invention, “A Biofilm Membrane for Remediating Oil Contaminated Locales,” attempts to provide a solution to water contaminated with oil using biofilm filtration membranes. Of particular interest is the use of this novel filtration device in developing nations. The purpose of this project is to develop a cost-effective filtration system that can be used in developing nations, such as Ecuador, where oil spills are both a current and past problem. Initial background research illustrated that oil in Ecuador has remained in the back villages of Ecuador since the 1960’s. “A Biofilm Membrane for Remediating Oil” is an environmentally sound and inexpensive approach to provide individuals in these regions with clean water.
