Sensible InvenTeam: March Update

This has been by far the most stressful month as an InvenTeam, but it’s also been the most fun. We held our MGTR on February 15th and were working nonstop in the weeks leading up to it. But, the hard work paid off!

We were proud to host around 70 people total, in person and virtually. It was amazing to be able to connect with the members of our community and share our initiative with them. Everyone was incredibly supportive and we had a great time. It was awesome to hear everyone’s thoughts and ideas on the topic and Sensible.

The MGTR was a huge success, and to celebrate, we went out to dinner as a team afterwards. We had tons of fun hanging out and unwinding together. It also gave us a chance to talk about our favorite parts of the MGTR and goals we have heading towards EurekaFest. Here are some highlights of what everyone had to say:

“Everyone had something to share, something to be proud of, because every single one of us put in so much work to get where we were today” - Anisha

“No way this wasn’t written in the stars. We work because of each and every person. We compliment each other. We are always about helping each other. It’s always the idea that comes first, the project.” - Nandini

“The way it impacted the community was really amazing.” - Amy

“I really liked how people had things to add to what we said. It showed how they took in the information and they were really listening.” - Samantha

As we go to EurekaFest, there are our next steps:

  • Working with fabrics and understanding their properties to be able to select textiles to use for the pad
  • Testing the transparent polymer and create a fully functional device
  • Partner with nonprofit organizations with similar goals and focuses on raising awareness for menstrual stigma and cervical cancer.

We are excited to share that we are now a patent-pending InvenTeam! We are thrilled and would love to give a massive shout-out to our patent agent, Shirley. We could not have done this without her support and guidance. Shirley has helped us in various ways, including providing us with NDA’s, looking into prior art concerns, and most importantly filing our provisional patent application. During this process, we created an invention disclosure slideshow. Shirley looked over it and then provided feedback on how we could accurately portray our invention, protecting all aspects of it with the provisional patent. Filing for our provisional patent was crucial for our team. Not only so that we would be able to speak freely about our project at the MGTR, but also because we had disclosed part of the project prior to becoming an InvenTeam. Shirley’s work has allowed us to protect our idea. Thank you, Shirley!
