November Preliminary Planning

The Francis Tuttle Technology Center is honored to be among the Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams, and our team is looking forward to presenting at EurekaFest 2020. We aim to release at least updates per month, including November.

Our first course of action has been creating a prototype mock up with inspiration from initial CAD models.
This has involved several trips to our local Home Depot to pick up sheet metal, square tubes for our chassis. Have a look at our shopping timelapse:

We will revisit for PVC, bearings, and wood to complete a motorized conveyor system. More specialized parts such as the pump and UV lamp will come in through online orders. The CAD and welding schools have made great contributions in assembling our frame and testing spray nozzle designs. The team hopes to have a working model by December 6th for our Mock Up Review Presentation.

To aid us in our production, we have been networking with local state representative Tammy West. She has graciously provided access to the Oklahoma Capitol building in order to take measurements (dimensions and speed) of their security lanes and to obtain a used tray for swabbing.

The bioscience members of group will compare this tray with preliminary tests from August. Here are a few results from our swabbing at Will Rogers World Airport over the summer:

Stay tuned for another update over Thanksgiving break!
