Although the Gulfport High School Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam members are all missing each other and working on our project, our members were quick to find a way to help local hospitals' safety efforts. Not long after school closed to students, 3 members of our team were allowed to meet at the school (following social distancing guidelines) to work on manufacturing face masks and face shields. This was done by 3d printing them and then sealing them. For the face masks, a laser is used to cut the plastic for the shield. The local news outlet picked up our story and it can be found at https://www.sunherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241629911.html Once we switched production to solely face masks, our instructor took over so that there was less of a risk of infection between students. With the 3d printers running almost non-stop, our team has provided our hospitals with over 150 masks/frames and counting.
