Team Leads, please go to your specific sections, type specific statements no more than a few sentences long for each section, be mindful of the top questions. Please have completed by January 31 to allow ample time for me to compile the entire blog. Also, place any pictures in the january blog folder.
Invention Description updates
Our invention description remains the same but, our research lead, Chanel Harris, has been collecting community input which could possibly alter our invention description.

Progress during the last month
Hardware Team:
We were able to get data to transfer from the Raspberry Pi to a computer. We are now trying to transfer that same data via Bluetooth so that it will be more efficient in a car setting. We were extremely proud when we got the data to transfer off of the Raspberry Pi because that is where we have been stuck.

User Interface Team: Our team has gained a more-in depth understanding of data scraping and querying data from one source to another. Our next step is to take this skill and apply it to test data samples in AWS. Over the past month, we ran into a number of issues with programming errors and software downloads but through patience and persistence we pushed through.

jcrop-previewData Team:
In the last month we were able to progress in our code connecting python to AWS. We have overcome many obstacles including changing our AWS account from multiple personal accounts, to one group account for the Invent team. This made it easier for me and my group members to collaborate at once and we were able to get confirmation that our Python code was connecting to AWS. We have figured out the problem (why our files won’t send from application to application). There seems to be a problem with the Path of Python on the computer and we are working to fix it.

Artificial Intelligence Team: Over the past month, the team was able to put our vision kit together and have it hooked up to a monitor. On behalf of the group, I can say confidently that a moment that we were all proud of was putting our kits together without running into any issues. Personally, when I first got the kit in-hand, I imagined that constructing it would be very difficult and time consuming to say the least. I quickly realized that by following the instructions closely that it wouldn’t be as tough as I had thought. Eventually the group did end up running into a wall. Everyone in the group ended up having their own separate issues, so that did slow us down a bit. Within a week of hardcore researching and communicating, we managed to get passed those obstacles.

Goals for the upcoming month
Hardware Team:
In the next month, we want to have data being transferred from the Raspberry Pi via Bluetooth. We also want to finalize our data collection modules, such as the microphone and the GPS. Based on the current issues we are having, the most common issue that we could come across would be coding issues. Some of the codes that we are finding have not been updated recently and have components that are not currently compatible. If we are not able to meet these goals we will have to set aside more time outside of our class period so that we are able to complete these goals as well as the future ones.

User Interface Team: Last month, our goal was to integrate our site with the other technical teams. This goal is still a work in progress. However, our current next step is to gain a deeper understanding of AWS before continuing with implementation. To do this we have reached out to an AWS expert and several online tutorials.

Data Team:
Next month we plan to fix the path of the Python application in order to allow the files to send. A challenge that might arise would be connecting the python code to the new AWS folders in our new account. If we fail to meet these goals we have no choice but to change our approach by deleting the code and starting new.

Artificial Intelligence Team: In the next few months, we manage to not only get all of our kits hooked up to a monitor, but to get our cameras up and running as well. Some issues that I can predict will happen is that some issues may pop up with our monitors or cameras not working properly.

Networking
Our class has been in continuous communication with Wells Montague, our mentor. Our hardware, UI, and data teams email him when necessary and February 1st he attended our class. We have also decided to discontinue our GoFundMe since there is no need for traveling costs.

jcrop-previewTeamworkHardware Team:
The hardware team has been working nicely together. During class time we all work on our separate modules, but when one person needs help all of the other members are there to help troubleshoot. We have been working a lot during our usual class period...but we have also been meeting on Wednesdays and occasionally on Saturdays.

User Interface Team: Our team ran into some issues with running data scraping programs. We’ve reached out to an expert and have several meetings scheduled for troubleshooting. Additionally, our team has switched operating systems from PC to MacOS so when members run into certain issues, troubleshooting will be far easier.

Data Team:
The team has broken down into two people and we work very well together. We use each other's research and we make sure the other team member is always caught up on what’s going on with the code. Me and my partner have met outside of class about 3 times this month.

Artificial Intelligence Team:  Outside of meeting with Ms. White to pick up our supplies plus the conversations we have as a group, we haven’t done/had much conversation and interactions with other people. But other than that, the A.I. has been working very well at communicating and helping each other. If there’s any questions or anything that a group member might have, they know they all they have to do is send out a message to the group and that we will do our best to help each other out. Ms. White hosts meetings on  Wednesdays and Saturdays. In these meetings we just sit in our groups and try to make as much progress as possible.
