Edwin Marrero, a Lemelson-MIT Invention Education Manager, was presented with the MIT Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award for Staff on February 10, 2026. Presenting the award was MIT Chancellor Melissa Nobles.

Lemelson-MIT is proud to honor Edwin for being named a recipient of the award—a recognition that celebrates individuals who embody Dr. King’s legacy through service, integrity, and a deep commitment to equity and community impact.

This award reflects not only Edwin's leadership at Lemelson-MIT, but the lasting influence of his work has had through dedication, collaboration, and vision for a more inclusive future. We’re grateful to work alongside leaders like Edwin who inspire meaningful change every day.

The award presentation ceremony was followed the next day by the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Luncheon.  MIT President Sally Kornbluth and School of Engineering Dean Paula Hammond spoke, along student and staff of the MIT community, including a performance by the MIT Gospel Choir.  To see the full program, click here
