Westminster High School InvenTeam
Problem Statement:
Nearly four in ten Americans live with a condition that slowly damages their bodies. This is the harsh reality of diabetes, which is projected to increase sharply in the next decade due to increasing rates of obesity. Up to 50% of people with diabetes develop diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). In turn, this leads to diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), which typically begin as minor injuries and slowly worsen into deep, infected wounds as the patient is unaware due to nerve damage. The Westminster High School InvenTeam will invent a monitoring device for foot health.
About the 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams:
The 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams were selected by a panel of esteemed judges after several months of researching problems within their community that could be addressed with a technological solution. Teams will continue to learn more about the problems they selected in the first half of the grant year. Technological solutions will be prototyped, tested, and modified in the second half of the grant year. The technological solutions—inventions—will be showcased during EurekaFest in 2026. Team progress can be followed through Inside InvenTeams, a monthly newsletter.
