Multifunctional medical unit
Healthcare

The Clear Lake High School InvenTeam invented a compact, multifunctional medical unit that generates power, sterilizes water, and stores medical equipment. The system is powered by two marine batteries recharged by bicycle-power. Water is filtered by pumps that propel water through a series of particulate filters to remove dissolved compounds. Sterilization occurs in an ultrasonic machine that employs high-intensity sound waves to eradicate pathogens. Water is filtered at a rate of 1.5 L per 30 s, and is sterilized in 20 min. The invention costs $2,500 and is aimed at providing clean drinking water to people in Bangladesh.
