Brooklyn Technical High School InvenTeam
Problem Statement:
The Brooklyn Technical High School InvenTeam is inventing, VOCuum, a portable air-filtration system designed to protect construction workers from harmful airborne pollutants such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), PM2.5, and silicates that are generated on-site. VOCuum will employ mechanisms to pull in contaminated air, trapping fine particles and gaseous pollutants. Construction workers will have an indicator signaling when purified air is ready for release. The air purification device will have a companion mobile to assist with identifying hazardous materials and track real-time air conditions to promote a safer and healthier work environment.
About the 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams:
The 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams were selected by a panel of esteemed judges after several months of researching problems within their community that could be addressed with a technological solution. Teams will continue to learn more about the problems they selected in the first half of the grant year. Technological solutions will be prototyped, tested, and modified in the second half of the grant year. The technological solutions—inventions—will be showcased during EurekaFest in 2026. Team progress can be followed through Inside InvenTeams, a monthly newsletter.
