November Update: Intro & Experiment Progress

Greetings from Dublin California! The Quarry Lane InvenTeam is extremely grateful to be recipients of the Lemelson-MIT grant, and everyone is excited to get working to improve communication for deaf basketball athletes! Over the course of several weeks leading up to the application submission, the team researched, discussed, and interviewed the community: but only now does the real project begin!

Media Coverage

Following the official grantees announcement, the Quarry Lane InvenTeam has received some media coverage from both the school and in our community. We are excited to make a difference in our community!

Self-Conducted Research

The device has been divided into 3 main categories that we are currently working to develop: Haptic vs. Visual, Practical Application, and Electronics. Throughout September and November we have been gathering data and conducting experiments in these categories, which will shape the device details and allow us to refine our Invention Statement.

  1. Haptic or Visual: Whether the player will be signalled haptically (through a vibration) or visually (through a light)
  2. Practical Application: Follows requirements of sports rulebooks; potential locations to wear
  3. Electronics:  Wireless connectivity; Sound recognition
