January Update

Exit 65A Robotics InvenTeam

Happy New Years from the Exit 65A Robotics InvenTeam! Despite winter break and snowy weather in New Jersey, our team continued to make tremendous progress. Our team made the decision to switch from Bluetooth mesh technology to radar for module communication. The radio team was able to successfully get two radios to communicate with one another. With the radio capable of communicating, the next steps for radio development is connecting an LED to blink on command and connect the system to our radar. On the communication side of things, we were able to successfully connect with an Infineon Technologies employee who helped us on public forums with our coding! Additionally, despite the cold weather, our sustainability team made the most of it and used the snow to test radar efficiency through snow. They also tested for material deterioration and planned for durability testing. The radar team continued detection experimentations by looking at Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) magnitude. FFT is a method of measuring audio or acoustics in science. The preliminary test results were determined to be inconclusive but in every failure is a lesson! The team plans to continue experimenting with FFT magnitude to gain a better understanding of the amplitude of wave reflected back. On the bright side, a CAD model of our radar stand was successfully 3-D printed. Due to restrictions in regards to human testing, the team has been brainstorming alternative methods to safely test.
