Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School InvenTeam

Problem Statement:

The Bay Path Regional Vocational Technical High School InvenTeam is addressing the inefficiency, compromised safety, and lack of comfort present in wheelchairs used to access sandy beaches. The team is inspired to design a better wheelchair for beach access after talking to a community member who cannot access beaches with his current wheelchair nor with their current beach providing technology to access the beach even with family assistance. Their struggle became the team’s struggle. Through our invention, we seek to improve the beach-going experience, promote accessibility and independence for our beneficiary and their family with an efficient, safe, and comfortable design.

About the 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams

The 2025-2026 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams were selected by a panel of esteemed judges after several months of researching problems within their community that could be addressed with a technological solution. Teams will continue to learn more about the problems they selected in the first half of the grant year. Technological solutions will be prototyped, tested, and modified in the second half of the grant year. The technological solutions—inventions—will be showcased during EurekaFest in 2026.
