Haverhill High Students Tackle Clean Energy Challenges

Haverhill HIgh students host the table at the Career Expo

Haverhill High School students are taking on clean energy challenges as part of an exciting initiative led by the LMIT in coordination with the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC).

With support from a $400,000 MassCEC grant, students are exploring clean energy careers, hands-on innovation, and real-world problem-solving. The initiative combines classroom learning, field experiences, and internships to give students the skills and confidence to pursue the clean energy workforce.

What Students Are Doing

  • Exploring Career Pathways – Students learn about local clean energy jobs through interactive panels and professional interviews.
  • Field Learning Experiences – From wind technology tours to clean energy facilities, students see innovation in action.
  • Hands-On Projects – Internships and the Invent‑a‑Thon allow students to design solutions to real world challenges by blending technical skills, creativity, and mentorship.

Clean Energy Career Expo

On March 18, Haverhill High School hosted a Clean Energy Career Expo where local businesses and nonprofits showcased the many career paths within clean energy. Representatives from Casella Waste, New Ecology, BioEChem, Merrimack Valley Transit Authority, Geothermal Drillers Association, New England Invents, and Mass Hire Merrimack Valley were in attendance. The expo was designed to give students the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and learn about the skills and experience employers are seeking in today’s clean energy workforce. Students asked questions about career paths and gained a better understanding of the opportunities available in the industry.
