Celebrate Mass STEM Week with Biogen & Lemelson-MIT, along with MA Lt. Governor, Karyn Polito and MA Secretary of Education, James Peyser! Co-Sponsored by the MA Black and Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC).

Join us for two webinars on Oct. 21 & Oct. 22 | 4-5 PM ET. Both events are open to middle and high school students, teachers and families. The events also aim to engage women, people of color, first generation students, and low-income individuals in biotech and invention.

Mass STEM Week is organized by the state’s Executive Office of Education and the STEM Advisory Council in partnership with the state’s nine regional STEM networks. The theme for STEM Week is “See Yourself in STEM.”

Oct. 21, 4-5 PM ET: Helping Youth See Themselves in Biotech, featuring MA Lt. Governor, Karyn Polito
This event will be the premier installation of the Biogen Community Labs’ new virtual Speaker Series. To kick it off, we are thrilled to have Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito, Co-Chair of the STEM Advisory Council. We will also have Stephanie Couch, Executive Director of the Lemelson-MIT Program and Alazar Ayele, Biogen’s Community Lab Manager, who will share impactful stories of Biogen’s Community Lab that helps youth, especially those from underserved and underrepresented communities, to see themselves in STEM. The webinar will focus on growing the Massachusetts Life Science industry with a diverse, well-educated and innovative workforce.

Oct. 22, 4-5 PM ET: The Wonderful World of Biotech, featuring MA Secretary of Education, James Peyser and Co-Sponsored by the MA Black and Latino Legislative Caucus (MBLLC)
We are pleased to host MA Secretary of Education, James Peyser for this event. We will also be joined by the MA Black and Latino Legislative Caucus who will discuss the importance of access to STEM education and diversity in the fields of biotechnology and medicine. This event will also feature instructors from Biogen’s Community Lab teams in MA and NC who will share the wonderful world of biotech and walk attendees through an interactive lab simulation.
