Sophie Thompson
Sophie is a recent MIT graduate in Chemical Engineering whose research interests lie at the intersection of human centered design and healthcare. At MIT, she conducted research in the Biomechatronics Group, focusing on optimizing the manufacturing method of a banana fiber prosthetic socket for use in low-resource clinical environments. She also held leadership positions in TEDxMIT and AIChE, two organizations dedicated to bridging the gap between scientific innovation and the public. Through the Lemelson-MIT program, she is excited to contribute to the expanded access to STEM education. Outside of school, Sophie was captain of the Lightweight Women's Rowing team.
