e3 Civic High InvenTeam April Blog

This month, our team was invited by Nixon to tour their California office! On April 25th, we traveled up to Carlsbad and met with Joanne Sessler, who had previously met with at our school, Robert Burton, Lisa Larson, Jesse Blackburn, and Ashley Wasley. We learned about their career journey and how they found their way to Nixon. We also were able to meet the co-founder of Nixon, Andy Laats. On our tour, Lisa, who is a Senior Product Development Manager at Nixon, showed us different prototypes of watches that they had launched in the past and we also got a sneak peak of watches that they were currently working on. We found it so interesting to see how many prototypes they had and the amount of parts that had to be modified to fit the concept and design they had in mind. It reminded us of our project and the amount of prototypes we've gone through. We are so grateful for the information their team provided us as well as offering the opportunity to tour their office.

Our team also went to a craft collaborative to learn how to work with different materials like vegan leathers, fabrics, yarn, and macramé cords. There was a training session that we did where we were taught how to use those materials and the different methods we could use. We spent the day experimenting with those materials to see what we'd like to make our watch bands with after our visit at Nixon. We were also able to order the necessary tools to do that. Overall, we had such a fun experience at the collaborative and at Nixon and we learned so much that will definitely help us in the future.

Craft Collaborative

Here at e3, there was a Decision Day celebration for seniors where our team, along with the other seniors, declared our path after high school. We are proud to announce that Shessly will be attending the University of San Diego (USD) for General Biology, Desiree will be attending the University of California, Riverside (UCR) for Microbiology, and JoAnna & Shania will be attending the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), for Biology and Neuroscience, respectively.

Decision Day

We are counting down the days until EurekaFest with an unwavering excitement to show our hard work Until next time!
