Electronics

Washington, D.C.
2013-2014

The Benjamin Banneker Academic High School InvenTeam invented a mechanism that allows teachers to prevent the doors in their classrooms from opening in a lockdown situation, e.g.: when there is an active shooter in the school. Teachers can use the mechanism, DeadStop, when it is not possible for them to lock their door while they are inside their classroom. It relieves the anxiety that many teachers feel in light of the shootings across the United States. The alpha prototype cost $20 to manufacture.
