Drowning prevention device
The Girls Leadership Academy of Arizona InvenTeam invented the "Wata Wescue," a lightweight water safety shirt to address the problem of child drownings in Phoenix, Arizona. The shirt is designed for children weighing up to 40 lb. The device — for children up to 40 lb. — features a comfortable shirt equipped with an inflatable bladder and alarm that sounds after three seconds. The bladder, which inflates within five seconds of being submerged in water, wraps around the back of the neck and comes down the front of the child's body. Both the inflation and alarm automatic mechanisms are stored in a small pouch on the front left side of the shirt.
