The West Salem High School InvenTeam invented the KAJI clip, a tool that attaches to biomass stoves in Malawi to convert heat energy into electrical energy using thermal electric generators (TEG). The fire from the stove heats one side of the device to around 300 degrees Celsius while the other side remains at 100 degrees Celsius using a water-cooled heat sink. This temperature differential generates 2.5 watts and is able to charge a basic cell phone during four hours of cooking. The KAJI clip is projected to cost around $30 in production.
