Announcing the Winners of the 1st Lemelson-MIT and DK English School Invention Writing Contest
In Spring 2022, Lemelson-MIT and DK English School launched their first Invention Writing Contest for third through twelfth grade students. Out of the many entries, we selected nine winners. We are pleased to announce the following winners at the elementary, middle, and high school levels!
In Spring 2022, Lemelson-MIT and DK English School launched their first Invention Writing Contest for 3rd through 12th grade students. Learners were invited to submit a short essay providing an argument in response to one of the following prompts: 1) Describe how one invention advanced our lives; 2) Describe an invention that could address an issue in your community.
The competition was open to a global audience, with participants from China, Lebanon, South Korea, and the United States. We received many excellent essays. We are pleased to announce the following winners at the elementary, middle, and high school levels:
Elementary School Division (Grades 3 to 5)
●1st Place: Benjamin Song(Grade 5), “The Modern Computer: Its Effects on Human Life”
●2nd Place: Jaylene Park(Grade 5), “Computer Technology Through the Internet: How it Has Changed the World”

Middle School Division (Grades 6 to 8)
●1st Place: Mackenzie Clarke(Grade 6), “Covid-19 Vaccine Invention Essay”

High School Division (Grades 9 to 12)
●1st Place: Susan Hong(Grade 10), “The Trash Sorter of America”
●2nd Place: Clara Anderson(Grade 11), “How Storytelling Has Advanced Our Lives”
●3rd Place: Name Withheld (Grade 9), “I Hate Missing My Bus”
