Reverse osmosis, while still one of our approaches to desalinating water, has provided several challenges, among them are maintaining high-pressure seals and film integrity. We're now also pursuing a volume, forward -osmosis approach using sodium polyacrylate.  The energetics of getting the water into the hydrogel are on our side, but those of us removing the water require work (pardon the pun).  Here are some photos of Jerry working with sodium polyacrylate and the results of our first attempts at water separation.
