Aquatic vegetation collector

The Catlin Gabel School InvenTeam invented an autonomous robot called the Scumbot that removes aquatic surface vegetation from small lakes and ponds to prevent eutrophication and restore aesthetic appeal. Scumbot allows lake owners to prevent large amounts of duckweed by employing the robot early in the season to clear approximately 30 lb of surface vegetation a day. The robot offers a substantial reduction in the cost of removing vegetation compared to current methods. It accommodates smaller sized lakes than current solutions, requires minimal labor and is environmentally friendly. Scumbot will serve a niche in the market for both small bodies of water and ecosystems that are fragile or protected.
